Leading Coach Educator

‘Engaging and accrediting sports coaches as contributors to pupil higher achievement’

This new nationally recognised ‘leading coach educator status’ has been designed and piloted by YMG Education for any sports coach or commercial provider who delivers a service to schools during PE and school sport - curriculum and extra curriculum time.  Its aim is to provide a nationally transferable standard and baseline expectations for a schools external workforce that is accepted across all Local Authorities and designated Safeguarding Boards. Holding the LCE status will show that the holder of the status meets safeguarding, selection, recruitment and performance criteria for working with pupils during PE curriculum and sport extra curriculum/out of hours time.

Achieving Leading Coach Educator status will support consistent and coherent training and development for sports/physical activity coach providers – their selection and recruitment in schools. Holding the status will also provide schools with the quality knowledge that ‘the coach’ has met the rigorous standard required to work effectively with pupils and support the school in inspiring higher achievement and learning improvement.

Providing clear signposting to National Governing Bodies of Sport; professional training, development and relevant accredited qualifications will form part of the overall process. It is envisaged that Sports Coach UK (scUk); Association for PE (afPE); The Youth Sport Trust (YST), Sport England (SE) will contribute to training and enhanced qualification route – supporting a coach readiness and learning development as part of attaining and retaining the LCE status.

Access to this programme is by contacting YMG EDUCATION direct. If you wish to apply for the status and/or know more about the programme and the process offered please contact us.

Coaches can make a significant contribution to increasing pupil achievement and their recognition as an ‘educator’ alongside targeted professional development needs are critical factors in making a difference to inspiring young people, their families, staff and wider community partnerships of a school.

If we are to improve the quality of coaching taking place in our schools curriculum there is a need for a nationally recognised standard on which coaches can build their curriculum based reputations and education credibility -  a quality assured professionally led credible status will help to set the standard for development and future impact of coaches on outstanding PE and Sport practice.
